Virginia has played an important role in the history of the United States, so it is ideal for history lovers destination. For starters, Jamestown was founded in 1607, the first permanent English settlement in America was (English stressed distinguish many older European settlements in America). Virginia is one of the original 13 colonies and not less than eight American presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor Woodrow Wilson and home state, hence the nickname "Mother of Presidents." Virginia has long had a strong association with the military. As a colony and the state, which has seen its share of battles on its soil, the war of independence (eg Yorktown) in the War of 1812 to the Civil War. Arlington National Cemetery, which is for many of the nation's death war the final resting place is in Northern Virginia, across the Potomac River in Washington, DC. Meanwhile, Virginia Beach, the state's largest city, has a large population, especially on the naval base there. The Marine Corps of the United States has a great training ground in Quantico in northern Virginia.

End of April: Historic Garden Week. "The biggest Open Day in America" invites the public to see the gardens and the property of more than 250 houses and monuments.

End of April: Virginia International Tattoo, Norfolk. This military display ("Tattoo") is a major exhibition of more than 800 artists, including military bands, massed pipes and drums, drill teams, choirs, Turner and more. The tattoo is the most important event in the annual Virginia Arts Festival, which also features a variety of shows, rock concerts to ballet.

The end of April, beginning of May: Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. A festival in the Shenandoah Valley since 1924 celebrates the apple blossom spring with concerts, parades, food and much more.

Last Wednesday in July: Pony Swim and Auction, Assateague Iceland. In the case on the east coast of Virginia, Broncos Assateague Island swim across the channel to Chincoteague Island, before a move and auction auction foals.

End of August: East Coast Surfing Championship in Virginia Beach. The competition will run oldest surf the nation.

October Virginia Wine Month. Top autumn leaves and wine events around the wine of the month of October to over 160 wineries in Virginia instead concentrated.

International Gold Cup. Horse race with obstacles in the heart of this annual event.

Mid-November to early January: 100 Miles of Lights. Christmas lights and displays on a path from Richmond to Virginia Beach carve 100 miles.

Lights Beach, Virginia Beach. This holiday festival has 25 blocks and Christmas lights on the nautical theme.
